Technology by Morgan Polymer claimed to have "defective rate of zero parts per million"
San Diego, California – US-based manufacturer of automotive gaskets Morgan Polymer Seals has developed an in-house vision inspection technology, which it is now employing for the inspection of Volkswagen filter plate seals.
Morgan automated gasket inspection control (Magic) utilises 3-D scanning technology to check for aesthetic and dimensional defects in the parts that are manufactured in Tijuana, Mexico.
The 5 million parts are then shipped to the OEM in Germany and China for use in vehicles’ transmission electro-hydraulic control module, Morgan said in a statement.
According to its website, Morgan Polymer's automated vision inspection systems, with "defective rate of zero parts per million", uses a scanner to capture images of all sides of each part.
The scan is then compared to a digital model of the part to idenfity any discrepancies and defects.
According to the manufacturer, the system can inspect up to six pieces per second, totaling over 74 million parts per year.
“We programmed this particular machine as a proactive measure to ensure the quality and safety of the product,” said head of automation Leonardo Meza.
