Frankfurt, Germany – Michelin has named Maria Roettger as president & CEO of Michelin Europe North, effective 1 June.
Roettger is taking over from Anish Taneja, who has decided to move on to a new role outside the French mobility group, Michelin announced 3 May.
She was previously VP chief administrative officer in the region’s management team and responsible for HR, legal matters, quality, IT, procurement and industry.
Roettger joined Michelin in January 2020 from the French food company Danone, where she held senior roles in HR and was involved in the transformation of many parts of the company.
Roettger will be the first woman worldwide to take on the lead role for one of Michelin’s regions.
Region Europe North is the third-largest of Michelin’s ten global regions which were defined under the group’s 2018 restructuring.
Michelin linked the appointment to its diversity strategy, which aims for women to make up 35% of its management team by 2030. Four of the 11 board members of the Region Europe North are women.
Headquartered in Frankfurt, Region Europe North encompasses Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
Michelin employs around 7,000 people in Europe North, around 5,900 of whom work in production and logistics, with the other 1,100 in the central, sales and marketing departments.
“In recent years, we have done a great deal of work under the leadership of Anish Taneja to achieve sustainable growth and stay competitive," said Roettger.
“Together, our staff, my colleagues in the management team and I will continue to pursue this transformation, reinforce Michelin’s technology leadership in our region,” she added.
Taneja joined Michelin in 2013 and has served as president & CEO of the Europe North region for the past four years.
