New styrene-butadiene rubber capacity in Spain and Mexico
Houston, Texas - Dynasol Group is to install a new solution styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR) production line at its plant in Santander, Spain, the company has announced.
The project will add 20 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of SSBR at the facility, with potential to reach 25ktpa, according to the 26 April statement
The expansion plan also includes a 10ktpa capacity increase of the JV’s current styrene butadiene-copolymer (SBC) line in Altamira, Mexico.
Expected online by the first quarter of 2024, the Spanish investment “is economically viable thanks to the EU's incentives assigned to the Cantabria’s community,” said Dynasol.
European funds are channelled through the Regional Economic Incentives Law (LIR), noted Dynasol, a joint venture between KUO and Repsol. The company did not give a figure for the amount being invested.
"The two projects will provide Dynasol with great flexibility to produce more SBS or more SSBR as needed,” according to its announcement.
Dynasol said its SSBR’s and SBCs are finding increasing demand in markets such as EV’s, electronics, consumer goods. asphalt modification and compounding in both America and Europe.
“The market evolution of the last two years, logistics challenges and the impact from the global pandemic has led us to re-evaluate our current business model,” said Felipe Varela, director of Dynasol Group.
“We believe that regionalisation will play an important role in the customer’s decision process therefore, we need to adapt and respond according to the new market dynamics” added Varela.
Dynasol claims to be a world leader in the production of synthetic rubber and rubber chemical, with sales of around €600 million and synthetic rubber capacity of 500ktpa.
