Wolverhampton, UK - MacLellan Rubber has issued a statement on the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on its business, while also expressing sympathy with the millions of people so tragically affected by the conflict.
“During these difficult times our customers expect us to remain focused on ensuring we have the products they require when they need them,” the Wolverhampton-based rubber processor said 2 March.
Reviewing the potential impact on material supply, MacLellan said it is currently holding significantly higher stocks than it had 12 months ago as well as robust supply chains in place to maintain these levels.
“We are already seeing some extensions to lead times, both from inside and outside of Europe, however there are no indications yet of major shortages in any specific raw material, the company noted.
Nevertheless, MacLellan urged customers to place forward orders as early as possible to help the company to plan its production schedules well in advance.
With regard to raw material costs, MacLellan said while prices had jumped due to the crisis “we forward plan up to 20 weeks in advance so are able to secure materials at the best price.”
Meanwhile, the company noted recent spikes in shipping costs, which if maintained will need to be passed onto customers.
“For now customers can rely on their current price lists and be assured we will give as much notice as possible about price changes,” the UK company stated.
On another front, MacLellan expects lead times for specially manufactured materials to increase by up to two weeks “whilst markets and shippers adjust to current events.”
Overall, MacLellan said its reliance on Russian sourced raw materials “is minimal and easily transferred to non-Russian sources.”
“Our concern for those directly affected by the invasion of Ukraine remains high and we can only hope this is resolved quickly and peacefully, the company concluded.
MacLellan supplies rubber products to a range of industries including food & drink, defence, aerospace, oil & gas, pharma & chemical, automotive, water, transport and mining.
