Move to expand Dutch group’s reach into new markets ‘significantly’
Enschede, The Netherlands – The Compound Co., an Enschede-based compounding group, has acquired the Exxelor polymer resins business from Esso Deutschland GmbH, part of ExxonMobil.
Manufactured in Cologne, Germany, Exxelor resins are functional polymers used to enhance the performance of engineering thermoplastics and other polymers, said The Compound Co. in a statement 1 March.
The range includes polyolefin- and elastomer-based resins which can act as modifiers to improve the toughness of compounds.
As compatibilisers, coupling agents and adhesion promoters, they increase the bonding strength of non-polar polymers with polyolefins, fillers and reinforcements as well as metals and thermoset rubbers.
The acquisition will bring the Dutch compounder’s total production capacity to 70 kilotonnes per annum and “significantly expand the group’s reach into new markets,” the group statement added.
“We are very excited to welcome the Exxelor manufacturing force and portfolio in our organisation,” said Frans Haafkens, major shareholder of The Compounding Co.
The Compounding Co. expects the acquisition to complement its offering of Yparex extrudable adhesives and EcoForte compound families.
“It provides great synergies to further grow our customer base, with new opportunities in several dynamic application areas such as e-mobility,” Haafkens added.
