Unnamed tire maker has previously announced ‘ambitious sustainability goals’
Stockholm – Scandinavian Enviro Systems has received an order for 60 tonnes of recovered carbon black (rCB) from a “major”, unnamed European tire manufacturer.
The tire maker, active in "the premium segment", will use the rCB for production tests as part of an effort to increase the proportion of recovered and renewable materials in their tires, Enviro announced 22 Feb.
The Swedish recycler said it had previous collaborated “for several years” with the said tire maker, which used Enviro's rCB in minor production tests.
The recent order, to be supplied from Enviro’s Åsensbruk processing plant, will be used by the tire maker for “more comprehensive production tests.”
According to Enviro, the tire maker has previously announced ambitious goals to transition to more sustainable manufacturing,.
Among other targets, the manufacturer aims to procure half of all raw material in new tires from recovered or renewable sources by 2030.
Enviro acquired the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification system (ISCC) certificate for its recovered carbon black and pyrolysis oil last year.
With the certification driving up demand, the company has ambitious expansion plans to establish 30 recycling plants for end-of-life tires with a total capacity of 900,000 tonnes by 2030.
“We can help the tire industry meet the demands from both vehicle manufacturers and customers as regards reducing carbon emissions,” said Thomas Sörensson, CEO of Enviro.
“Our ISCC-certified carbon black and oil will facilitate this transition in several industries,” he added.
