Polimeri Europa closes French polychloroprene factory
Champagnier, France -- Polimeri Europa. owners of the polychloroprene factory in Champagnier, France, have informed employees that the factory is to close, following a three-month interruption in supply of chlorine products.
Last Friday (Sept 30) the management informed employees that production had stopped and the factory would close, according to a spokesman for the French union, CGT. Staff at the factory confirmed stories circulating in the local press, but the director of human resources at the factory was not available for comment and did not return phone calls.
The plant makes polychloroprene and polychloroprene latex under the Butaclor trade names.
The company is built adjacent to its main supplier of chlorine products, Chloralp. According to reports, this company has failed to supply chlorine products in three of the last nine months. The CR factory ceased production on 10 September, according to local press reports. The CR plant takes 15 to 20 percent of the output of the Chloralp plant, and this clodsure threatens the future of Chloralp itself.
