China modifies tariffs on Korean SBR imports
Beijing -- China's Commerce Ministry has altered the tariffs on imports of styrene-butadiene rubber from Korea. Tariffs on imports from LG Daesan Petrochemical Ltd (previously Hyundai Petrochemical) to 4.5 percent, from 19 percent. Meanwhile, the company is increasing the tariff on other Korean companies to 27 percent, following a request from Hyundai / LG.
On Oct. 9, 2004, the Hyundai Petrochemical Co. submitted applications to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce for reconsidering the antidumping rate according to the changed circumstances.
The only other Korean manufacturer of SBR is Korea Kumho, which has a plant in Ulsan with capacity for around 180 kt/year. LG's factory in Daesan has nominal capacity of 60 kt/year.
The announcement has been posted on the Ministry of Commerce site in Chinese and is likely to be posted in English in the next few days.
