Shincor Silicones opens technical centre in Akron
Akron, Ohio -- Shincor Silicones Inc. -- part of the Shin-Etsu group -- has invested $500 000 to open a new liquid injection moulding technical centre in Akron.
The firm said the new centre was created to support the design of new LIM products, provide full-scale process development of materials and assist customers. The money was spent on the plant, equipment and tooling.
Shincor´s new centre includes a 110-ton, all-electric horizontal liquid injection moulding press. The firm also purchased two moulds -- a four-cavity baby bottle nipple tool with cold-runner and valve-gates, and a single-cavity tool to overmould silicone onto thermoplastic inserts.
The new centre includes room for expansion, and Shincor said it plans to add analytical testing and additional processing equipment.
