NR prices continue upward trend
London -- Prices of natural rubber are still increasing beyond historic highs. In Tokyo the benchmark 6-month futures prices closed at 252.8.6 yen/kilo on 30 Jan, almost six percent higher than the record figures achieved a week ago. All futures contracts were trading above 245 ¥/kg (208 US cents).
In India's spot markets, 4-sheet grades topped Rs 78/kg on Friday - another all-time high - and traders suggested the spot price would continue to rise early this week on the back of bullish trading in other global markets.
Markets were closed in Singapore for the Chinese New Year celebrations, but RSS3 broke through the 200 US cents/kg level on Friday and remained there when markets closed for the holiday weekend. Meanwhile RSS1 closed at 327.5 Sing cents/kg (fractionally over 200 US cents) on Friday. Sicom re-opens on Wednesday after the new year break.
