NR prices stabilise above $2/kg
London -- Natural rubber prices seem to have stabilised in the short term at prices above $2/kg in global markets.
In Tokyo the benchmark 6-month futures prices closed at 255.4 yen/kilo on Wednesday, below the record-breaking close of 267.5 earlier this month, but still worth some $2.15/kg. All futures contracts were trading at around 250 ¥/kg (around $2.10).
India's spot markets broke through the Rs80 / kg once more on Tuesday after falling from record highs earlier in the month. Futures prices remained in the high-80s range, and RSS4 for June delivery closing at Rs 88. ($1,99).
In Singapore RSS3 spot closed at US $2.03/kg, still high in historical terms but lower than the record figure of 220 achieved earlier this month, while the futures contracts closed around 207 US cents/kg. Meanwhile there was no trading at all in RSS1, but the spot price closed at 336 Sing cents/kg, (US$2.06), while the 12-month contract closed at a nominal price of 348.75 Sing cents/kg (US$2.14).
