Mount Vernon, Illinois - Continental Tire North America Inc. broke ground on a new addition to house a $17.8 million tandem mixer at its Mount Vernon manufacturing facility last week.
The addition, located adjacent to an existing mixing building, and mixer are part of a $60 million to $70 million capital investment programme announced earlier this year aimed at modernizing the Mount Vernon tyre plant.
Conti said the new mixer will increase efficiency and productivity by conserving manpower, saving time and doubling production through high quality, proprietary technology. The company said it's the only mixer of its kind in the US and has the capability of mixing about a million pounds (450 tonnes) of rubber a day.
