Malaysia's 2005 NR production similar to 2004
Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia's production of natural rubber (NR) in the 12 months to December 2005 was 1.124 million tonnes, about 4 percent less than the 1.169 million tonnes produced in 2004, according to official statistics.
For the month of December, production was 93,309 tonnes, 27.5 percent up on the previous month, but 17.8 percent less than in December 2004.
The smallholding sector contributed 93.3 percent of total production while the estate sector, the remaining 6.7 percent.
In the year to December 2005, Malaysia's NR exports were as follows:
People's Republic of China; 385 872 tonnes
Federal Republic of Germany 131 782 tonnes
Republic of Korea 74 309 tonnes
USA 67 413 tonnes
France 45 896 tonnes
Islamic Republic of Iran 40 324 tonnes
Brazil 30 698 tonnes
Total exports to these seven countries accounted for 68.9 percent of the overall NR exports.
During the year domestic consumption of NR was dominated by gloves, which absorbed 58 percent of all NR consumption, rubber thread (16 percent) and tyres (12.5 percent).
During the year, prices of latex rose 46 percent while SMR20 increased by 37 percent.
