Conti orders 3rd VIC mixing line for Timisoara
Castellanza, Italy - Continental's tyre plant in Timisoara, Romania, has placed a third order for a mixing line based on Techint-Pomini's VIC (Variable Intermeshing Clearance) mixer. This is the third identical line ordered by Conti. The first order was placed 18 months ago, followed by a second line at the end of 2005. Now, less than 6 months after the second order, Conti has placed a repeat order for the third line. The original project called for up to four lines at the Romanian plant
When purchasing the first line, Karl-Heinz Evertz, managing director of passenger car tyre production at Conti, said that any decision on the technology used in future lines planned for Timisoara would be made after the unit has been in operation long enough to fully evaluate its performanceâ€. Purchase of the second and third lines was based on the results of this intensive evaluation.
According to Pomini, better-than-expected productivity and quality were obtained by using a fully automatic line (no open mill is used) for the production of final batches. In detail, all three lines are composed of VIC275 (Variable Intermeshing Clearance, worldwide patent) mixer in conjunction with TDE11 (Twin Dump Extruder) directly leading to batch-off.
Techint Pomini is also supplying complete automation system, controlling the whole lines, based on Beckhoff hardware and Pomini software.
