Cabot opens Chinese carbon black plant
Tianjin, China - Cabot Corp. has announced the start-up of its carbon black manufacturing plant in Tianjin, China.
The new facility was built in 14 months by Cabot Chemical (Tianjin) Co. Ltd, a joint venture between Cabot's Chinese subsidiary Cabot (China) Ltd and Huayi Group's Shanghai Coking Chemical Co.
Cabot invested about $60 million (€46.5 million) to build the plant and expected it to produce 105 000 tonnes of carbon black per year.
The company said the factory had two production units that used its energy recovery and flue gas de-sulphurisation technology and would work at full capacity.
''Working together with the highly-skilled local workforce and with the continued support of local officials in China, we are committed to supplying high-quality carbon black products to meet customers' growing demand," Cabot chairman and chief executive Kennett Burnes said.
