Malaysia's production of NR fell in June
Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia's production of natural rubber in June 2006 was 96 114 tonnes, an increase of 9546 tonnes or 11.0 percent compared to the previous month. Year-on-year, production was lower by 2.3%. The smallholding sector contributed 94.6 percent of the total. For the six months to June 2006, total production amounted to 602,869 tonnes.
Exports in the six-month period were mainly to China (206,742 tonnes), Germany (66,958 tonnes), Republic of Korea (35,064 tonnes), US (33,753 tonnes), Iran (21,739 tonnes) and France 20,405 tonnes). Total exports to these six countries accounted for 66.6 percent of the overall NR exports. In the “other countries†category, Brazil was the largest NR importer, accounting for 2.9 percent.
The major NR consuming industries for the six months were rubber gloves 59.6 percent, rubber thread 15.5 percent and tyre & tubes 12.2 percent. The consumption by these three industries constituted 87.3 percent of the total domestic consumption of NR.
The average monthly price of bulk latex in June 2006 was 11.0 percent higher than the previous month, at 652.41 sen. This is 72.9 percent ahead of the price in June 2005. SMR 20 prices were 10.5 percent higher than May, at 852.09 sen while the year-on-year increase was 76.3 percent.
