Goodyear rolls out fuel-efficient tyres based on new technology
San Angelo, Texas -- Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. has launched three fuel-efficient line-haul tyres based on new technology it said could deliver up to 4-percent better truck fuel economy.
The Ohio-based tyre maker introduced its Fuel Max technology and a line of steer, drive and trailer tyres and retreads at its proving grounds in San Angelo.
"With fuel prices hovering around $3 (€2.30) a gallon (3.8 L), conserving fuel is on everyone's mind," Steve McClellan, Goodyear's vice president of commercial tyre systems, said.
"We enhanced fuel economy in our industry-leading platform of line-haul tyres. With Fuel Max technology, we have blended fuel efficiency with long tread life and excellent performance."
Goodyear claimed that although its officials were citing a 4-percent improvement in fuel economy, test results by the Society of Automotive Engineers showed an 8-percent improvement in fuel economy compared with standard Goodyear over-the-road (OTR) tyres.
