Cooper recalls 80 000 tyres in US
Findlay, Ohio - Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has voluntarily recalled almost 80 000 tyres in various sizes and models made earlier this year at its plant in Albany, Georgia, because of faulty belt wire coat stock, the company said.
The tyres were made during an eight-day period earlier this year. All the tyres manufactured during the two-week period that encompassed the eight days were recalled, even though fewer than half are likely to have the defective belt wire coat stock, Cooper said in a statement.
"This manufacturing issue was unique in nature," the company said. "We have already taken strict corrective action to prevent this from occurring again."
Cooper has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, as well as all dealers who carried the tyres in stock. The tyre maker will replace the tyres free of charge. The NHTSA has assigned case number 06T016000 to the recall.
