Automotive News Europe says TPMS is good; Run-flats need work
Germany - Reporters on ERJ's sister paper, Automotive News Europe have listed tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) as one of the top 10 technologies that have improved the cars we drive.
Writing about TPMS systems, ANE says, "Since few drivers ever check their tires' pressures, the monitors provide peace of mind - and they surely will prevent many bad accidents." The praise is perhaps a little premature, but neverthelss welcome support for a technology whose time has come.
But run-flat tyres aare among the flawed inventions that need more work before they can successfully operate in theworld's sutomotive industry. ANE says, "At first glance, the idea of tires that remain useable even when the air has leaked out seems great. The unpleasant truth about run-flats is that each kind is a compromise that brings a heavy penalty when it comes to cost, comfort or performance. "
