Conti may buy Amtel-Vredestein. Russians confirm talks
Enschede, The Netherlands - Amid speculation by Russian media, Tyre producer Amtel-
Vredestein said it has held discussions with Continental AG in relation to "possible areas of cooperation in Russia." These discussions are at an early stage and may or may not lead to any agreement. A further announcement will be made in due course, said the company.
Kommersant, a usually-reliable news agency in Russia, is reporting that the talks involve Conti buying a majority stake in Amte-Vredestein. Kommersant reports, "Amtel-Vredestein General Director Alexey Gurin neither confirmed nor denied negotiations with Continental yesterday. But the sources say the deal could be finalized in March of 2007 once Amtel-Vredestein releases its 2006 non-audited accounting report."
