Beijing - Ford Motor Co. plans to invest $27.5 million (220 million yuan) in a research and engineering centre in China. It will work with Ford's purchasing office to validate Chinese parts for export. It also will approve parts for use by Ford and its partners, Changan Automotive Co. and Mazda Motor Corp., at their plants in China.
Ford's China Sourcing Office is on track to purchase about $2600 million (20.47 billion yuan) in parts and components in China this year for use in China and abroad. The total includes aftermarket parts.
The centre will be within the Nanjing plant complex of Changan Ford Mazda Automotive Co. At that complex, the partners are building an assembly plant with a capacity of 160,000 units. The plant is scheduled to open next year.
