Michelin aims to sell Nigerian tyre plant
Paris -- Michelin has decided to terminate tyre production at its car and truck tyre plant in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, this year and seek a buyer for the 47-year-old factory.
Michelin said "short-time working measures" already in place at the plant will be extended until the end of May.
The company said its "goal is to find and rapidly implement appropriate measures to support the employees concerned." According to local news reports, the factory employed 1300 workers.
Michelin will maintain its sales operations and plantations in Nigeria. Michelin said it would work together with the Nigerian government to find a buyer for the plant, which had a listed capacity of 2000 tyres a day.
