What's the connection between Continental tyres and the Eiffel Tower?
Hanover, Germany -- Conti has issued a press release touting its activities in the tyre business. It says "In 2006 Continental AG processed around 353,000 tonnes of rubber worldwide for production of 107 million passenger tyres. This amount comes equal to the weight of 35 Eiffel Towers."
The release continues, "Nowadays, a tyre consists of roughly 25 different component parts and as many as twelve different rubber compounds. In addition to fabric layers made of textiles and metal, chemicals, oils and silica, a size 195/65 R 15 Continental passenger tyre also incorporates around 3.3 kilos of rubber."
