Michelin selects US-based SAIC to handle logistics for military contract
McLean, Virginia - Michelin North America has placed a single award, firm-fixed-price contract with Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) to help supply ground tyres to the US military through the Defense Supply Center -- Columbus, Ohio (DSCC).
The contract has a five-year base term and a five-year option, and a total value of over $300 million if all options are exercised. Michelin North America will contract with SAIC for the wholesale supply, storage and distribution functions, contributing supply chain management expertise in the area of forecasting, inventory management and worldwide distribution.
Earlier this year, the US Defense Logistics Agency signed a deal with Michelin for the supply of land vehicle tyres. That contract is worth $852 million (€660 million) over the five year term. There is an option for both sides to extend the deal for a further five years. making the total deal worth up to $1700 million to Michelin.
