Pirelli launches top-of-range tyre
Dubai -- Pirelli is this week launching its flagship tyre in Dubai. The tyre is part of the P Zero range and is dubbed, P Zero the Hero.
The formal press launch is tonight, but the company has said the new tyre, "represents the most technologically advanced product to come out of Pirelli's research, a revolution for the tire industry, and offers the most demanding motorists unprecedented performance in all areas: sports handling, comfort and safety."
The tyre is the first from Pirelli in which all compounds are free from PAH oils, while the carcass cords are made from a hybrid of aramid and nylon -- HyCo. Which, Pirelli says, "allows the deformation of the tyre profile to be controlled through to the highest speeds (230mph / 370 kph), increasing the durability of the tyre, not simply in terms of outright mileage, but above all, in the consistency of performance throughout its life."
A third innovation, said the company, is the use of nano-composite fillers, which ensure the performance of the tyre remains constant over a lifetime of wear, rater than fading as te tread wears down. The company did not explain which fillers it uses to deliver this performance.
The new P Zero has obtained 15 homologations for use as original equipment on high-performance cars. It is already being fitted to the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, the Lamborghini Murcielago and Gallardo, the Audi R8 and S8, the Aston Martin DB9, the Maserati Quattroporte, the Jaguar XK, the Mercedes AMG, and will shortly appear on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione and the hottest Porsche and BMW models.
