Johnson-Sirleaf: Liberia renegotiating its concession agreement with BFS
Washington-- Liberia began renegotiating its concession agreement with Bridgestone/Firestone, one of its longest-standing business partners, the week of Feb. 12, according to Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.
The agreement with BFS is only one of 95 Liberia plans to renegotiate in an effort to strengthen its economy and draw the private sector into the impoverished nation´s revitalisation efforts, Johnson-Sirleaf said in a speech at the National Press Club.
The tyre maker has operated the world´s largest natural rubber plantation -- about 240 square miles -- near Harbel, Liberia, since 1926. BFS officials were not immediately available for comment about Johnson-Sirleaf´s remarks.
