Marangoni begins operations for 27.00-49-inch OTR retreads
Rovereto, Italy - Marangoni has begun manufacture of large-sized mining tyre retreads. The first tyres in the new range are designated 27.00-49â€. These are up to 3m in diameter and weigh around 1500 kg each. The tyres are designed to be used on dumpers and other vehicles with load capacities in excess of 100 tonnes. They are typically used in used in open-cut mines/quarries on rigid dumpers. Each tyre uses up to 1200 kg of compound during the retreading process.
However, these 49-inch tyres are only the first to come out of a new department set up specifically to provide retreading services on monster tyres. The new department will offer retreads on tyres with rim diameters starting from 39 inches and ranging up to 57 inches, using machinery manufactured by Marangoni's tyre machinery business area.
In a statement, Marangoni said, "A fundamental role in this process has been played by the compounds, which in recent years have seen their performance enhanced by the Marangoni Pneumatici Research and Development labs." Marangoni said the compounds are all based on natural rubber, rather than synthetic.
"The retreaded tyre features four types of compound, one for the base with very low hysteresis, another for the cushion gum with low hysteresis, one for the tread featuring high resistance to tear and wear, while the fourth compound is used for the sidewalls and features characteristics that prevent cracking."
Marangoni said it has been studying the construction and applications of these tyres for some years and is now confident enough to offer a full 5 year warranty on all its earthmoving retreads. It says it is the only company that will do this.
