Bridgestone reports healthy growth in Q1
Tokyo - Bridgestone Corp. reported sales growth of nine percent and operating income growth of eight percent for the three months ended 31 March, 2007.
Overall sales grew to ¥770 000 million (€4720 million) from ¥704.6 million in the same period last year, while operating income grew to ¥51 500 million (€315 million), up from ¥47 400 million a year earlier.
By business segment, the company's tyre sales increased 11 percent, to ¥623 600 million while operating income soared by 15 percent, to ¥40 600 million.
In diversified products the company recorded a two percent increase in sales, to ¥153 200 million while operating proficts fell by six percent to ¥10 800 million.
In the corporate statement, Bridgestone said, "The companies worked to maximise their sales momentum by introducing appealing new products worldwide, while at the same time improving and expanding strategic production sites around the world in support of those products that have been identified as strategic to the company's future growth."
