Nhumo to add 30kt of carbon black capacity
Altamira, Mexico -Â Nhumo, SA de CV, the Mexican carbon black producer, is to increase annual capacity at its Altamira plant by 30 kt to a nominal 150 kt by 2008.
Nhumo is a 60-40 joint venture between the DESC group -Â which is listed on the Mexican stock excahnge - and Cabot Corp, the world's largest producer of carbon black.
The company said the plans include machinery and equipment upgrades that will increase the plant's nameplate production capacity to approximately 150 kilotonnes per year by 2008, as well as the installation of a new co-generation unit.
It added, "These actions will allow Nhumo to respond to the increasing demand for carbon black in Mexico, and meet the needs of its customers. In addition, to leverage its position as a responsible care business by reusing tail gas from carbon black production."
