ExxonMobil offers two new Santoprene grades
Houston, Texas - ExxonMobil Chemical has introduced two new grades of its TPV known as Santoprene.
Santoprene TPV 45 B100 is a softer grade, xdesigned to bond well with engineering thermoplastics (ETPs). The company said makers of cellphones, computer peripherals and other products had requested imroved adhesion in a softer grade, and this is the result.
ExxonMobil said, "This new softer Santoprene TPV has been designed for applications which require a very soft touch feel and strong bonding to ETP materials including polycarbonate (PC), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA), acrylic (PMMA) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). An advantage of this Santoprene TPV grade is its processing performance. With good mould design, better looking components can be produced with fewer flow marks."
The second Santoprene grade, TPE XF241-80EU meets the potable water regulations of France, Germany and the United Kingdom and is designed for temperatures up to 60°C.
“There has been increasing demand from customers for a flexible material for use in potable water applications that complies with all major European regulations,†said Sybill Kraemer, global market segment manager, Santoprene brand TPVs. “Because of its flexibility, products manufactured from this new TPE are easier to assemble than components made from polyethylene.â€
ExxonMobil said the potable water grade is suitable for long-term sealing applications. "Tests indicate that its excellent tensile strength and compression set out-perform those of SEBS-based TPEs compounds with similar flexibility."
