Lanxess plans rubber research centre in China
Leverkusen, Germany - Lanxess AG said it is planning to build a centre for rubber research in Qingdao, China. The company expects to invest "several million euros" in the unit, which will open early next year.
The company said the new facility will be located in the immediate vicinity of Qingdao's Science and Technology unit, as close to the National key Laboratory for Rubber and Plastics as possible. Lanxess said 80 percent of China's rubber engineers study at universities in and around Qingdao, while over 60 percent of the country's rubber industry is based in the Qingdao region.
While the unit will initially employ about 10 scientists, Lanxess said it is already planning to add to the headcount. The researchers "will focus on developing new products and applications and continuing the development of existing applications," said Lanxess.
“The research center will play an important part in the “Lanxess goes Asia†initiative that we launched last year. With this investment, we hope to underline how important the Asian rubber market is to us,†explains Axel Heitmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of Lanxess.
