Goodyear wins six-year Boeing supply contract
Akron, Ohio - Goodyear has won an exclusive six-year contract with Boeing Commercial Airplanes to supply new original equipment aviation tyres for Boeing's next-generation 737 family of aircraft.
The deal is not exclusive: 737 operators can choose between Goodyear and Michelin. Each tyre lasts around 200 landings and costs up to €500.
The tyre maker did not disclose the value of the contract, but a spokesman said it will be “substantial†because of the large number of planes in the fleet.
“This contract is significant due to the importance of Boeing 737 aircraft in the world's airline fleets,†said Pierre Jambon, general manager for Goodyear global aviation tyres. “Because of Goodyear's global footprint, this supply arrangement also allows us to expand our position with replacement tyres and tyre services.â€
Goodyear produces aviation tyres in Danville, Virginia, Bangkok, and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
