Ineos declares force majeure on butadiene from Grangemouth, UK
Grangemouth, UK - Ineos, the UK-based raw materials supplier has declared force majeure on contracts of butadiene from the Grangemouth site. The company said it expects to put customers on allocation and the situation may last as long as three months.
In a statement, Ineos said it, "regrets that as of 29 May 2007 it is declaring Force Majeure on supply of ethylene, propylene and butadiene from the site. Discussions are taking place between INEOS product managers and external and internal customers on the allocation of contracted production."
The company said the situation came about when the company decided to extend a planned maintenance operation to carry out extra work.
The statement continued, "During the planned maintenance (turnaround) work at INEOS' Grangemouth petrochemical site, additional work scope has been identified on the G4 ethylene cracker plant. Currently INEOS Olefins considers that it may require up to an additional three months for the completion of this work. Once completed, this work will underpin the safe and reliable operations of the unit in the future."
