This day in 1844: Goodyear patented vulcanisation
Akron, Ohio - On 15 June, 1844, Charles Goodyear was granted a patent on the use of sulphur to vulcanise rubber.
Also, as it happens, in 1215, King John of England signed the Magna Carta at Runnymede and in 1520, Pope Leo threated Martin Luther with excommunication from the church.
