France's Elastopôle is eligible for government funds

Paris - The Elastopôle initiative established by the French Rubber industry federation, SNCP in June 2006, has won recognition from the French government. The new recognition means the SNCP's (Syndicat National du Caoutchouc et des Polymères) Elastopôle initiative is eligible to receive government funds.

Elastopôle covers four regions: the centre, the Loire region; the Auvergne and Ile de France, the region around Paris. The initiative is designed to share expertise and competence among French rubber processors as well as centres of learning and centres of research. The initiative is aimed primarily at small- and medium-sized enterprises, but Groupe Michelin and Hutchinson SA will both be invited to participate. Both these companies operate on a global scale with world-class technology and business systems.

Bruno Marostegan of the SNCP said the projects under Elastopôle cover different areas and topics, but include rubber waste, sustainable technology, REACH implementation, energy saving and suchlike. Now that Elastopôle has been recognised as a centre of competitiveness by the French CIACT (Comité interministériel d'aménagement et de compétitivité des terriroires), these projects are eligible to aply for partial funding - up to 25 or 30 percent - from central government sources, he added.
