Yokohama opens Indian subsidiary
Tokyo - Yokohama Rubber Co. (YRC) Ltd's new sales subsidiary in India started operations officially 27 July, and already Yokohama is evaluating plans to make the unit in New Delhi a holding company for tyre production and the firm's non-tyre businesses.
Announced originally last December, Yokohama India takes over sales of Yokohama tyres in India from the firm's Singaporean tyre distributor, which had handled the Indian market previously. Yokohama India will focus initially on establishing Yokohama's Advan brand in the high-performance segment and then broaden the sales base to more general users, the company said without disclosing sales goals.
Yokohama India is part of YRC's programme to strengthen operations in the emerging markets of Brazil, Russia, India and China, commonly referred to as the BRIC countries.
Yokohama has five manufacturing and sales companies under a holding company in China in addition to a tyre sales company in Russia.
