Michelin delivers 250,000th aircraft tyre to US military
ERJ staff report (TB)
Norfolk, Virginia -- Michelin Aircraft Tire Co., a division of Michelin North America Inc., marked a milestone on 2 Dec. with the delivery of its 250,000th aircraft tyre to the US Navy under its Performance-Based Logistics (PBL) contract.
The Michelin tyre for the nose landing gear of a U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornet was presented to the US Naval Air Station-Oceana in Norfolk.
Michelin netted the US Navy PBL contract in 2001 and the tyre maker in turn selected Lockheed Martin (MS2) as its logistics partner for the program. The contract requires the Michelin-Lockheed Martin to deliver aircraft tyres anywhere in the continental US in less than two days and elsewhere in the world, including deployed aircraft carriers, in less than four days.
Michelin said it has maintained an on-time delivery rate of more than 98 percent with zero backorders.
