Singapore company sets up tyre retail portal
ERJ staff report (DS)
Singapore -- A new company is setting up what it claims to be, "Asia's first and largest online tyre retailing site". The company has opened for business in Singapore and hopes by the end of March 2009 to begin serving consumers in China, Malaysia, Thailand, Korea and Hong Kong. Plans are also in the pipeline to expand the portal's services to other major Asian cities.
The company, Tyrepac, has received funding support from SPRING Singapore under the Logistics Capability Development Programme. It is run by Ler Hwee Tiong, Managing Director and Adrian Thio - General Manager (SEA). Ler was most recently sales director for the Asia region for a global top 10 manufacturer listed on the NYSE.
Thio said, "the aim of creating Tyrepac is to give motorists the choice and convenience when their vehicle needs a tyre change. Consumers will be given 2 choices, by car type, or by tyre size, when they first choose to buy tyres. They will be then given a wide range of tyres, which is suitable for their vehicles, to choose from. Once a choice is made, they can check out and make an online payment. Thereafter, customers can choose from a wide selection for tyre fitment centers all around Singapore for tyre fitting, and make an appointment at a day and time most convenient to them.
