Bridgestone opens SBR plant in China
ERJ staff report (DS)
Tokyo -- Bridgestone (Huizhou) Synthetic Rubber Co., Ltd. (“BSRCâ€), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bridgestone Corporation, has officially opened a plant for the production of synthetic rubber in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, China. The new plant produces styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR). Production capacity is projected to be around 50 000 tons annually.
The company did not say if the unit uses the solution- or the emulsion process, but noted that the unit, "will supply superior synthetic rubber through leading technologies and consistent quality management for use in the production of high-performance tires." Bridgestone also said the rubber from the unit, "will mainly be used for the part of the tread in contact with the road, and has characteristics that contribute to ensuring vehicle stability when traveling at high speeds without reducing rubber strength." High performance and low-rolling resistance tyres have tended to use solution-process SBR over the last few decades.
The unit will employ 210 and the site area is around 200 000 m2.
