Hankook's Hungary plant re-opens as gas supplies restored
ERJ staff report (DS)
Dunaujvaros, Hungary -- Hankook's tyre plant in Hungary re-opened on Thursday afternoon, as gas supplies were restored. The plant was forced to close on Wednesday morning when the local gas supplier FGSZ demanded that all of its high-consumption customers reduced their consumption dramatically. This move followed a dispute between Russia and the Ukraine, over payment and consumption of gas supplies and the consequent shortage of gas in parts of central Europe.
A Hankook spokeswoman said "On Thursday the authorities lifted the restriction on Hankook and other 'category 2' customers. Accordingly, production started again on Thursday with the afternoon shift" She added, "The plan had been to start again on Friday with the night shift (10.00 PM), assuming that the situation would normalise by then."
