Yokohama to build tyre plant in Russia
ERJ staff report (DS)
Tokyo -- Yokohama Rubber Co has said it intends to build a car tyre factory in Russia. The company said its application for the plant, located in the Lipetsk Economic zone, was recently approved. The company expects to sign a formal contract early in 2009.
The application covers 20 hectares with a planned output of 1.4 million units/year, due on stream in 2011. Yokohama said it intends to invest around Rbl 35 000 million (euro 850 million) in the project. (Editor's note: this figure seems high, but it is taken from Yokohama's official press release -- see below)
Yokohama established a sales company, Yokohama Russia LLC in 2005 with the aim of increasing sales of high performance passenger car tyres into the Russian market and increasing the company's sales network.
