ERJ staff report (DS)
Rovereto, Italy -- Marangoni Pneumatici has consolidated its retreading activity at the company's Rovereto headquarters. The company said in a statement, "The production of Marix retreaded tyres [has been moved] from the Feltre plant (Belluno province) to the main facilities in Rovereto (Trento province)."
A Marangoni spokesman said the Feltre plant will close with the loss of 85 jobs. He did not say if any jobs would be created in Rovereto
At a time when industries around the world need to face up to an unprecedented global economic recession, our company has decided to invest in what is still now our main manufacturing business: tyre retreading", commented Massimo De Alessandri, Marangoni SpA CEO. He noted that this activity generates 65 percent of Marangoni's group revenues.
Marangoni said, "By introducing new technology, we will likewise be able to expand the range and sizes of Marix retreaded tyres for light commercial vehicles and 4x4s/SUVs".
The statement continued, "The Marix product lines were established in the early 90s and are distributed all over Europe: from the Baltic states to Germany, France and Italy. Underlining the ecological value of retreads, over the last ten years the Marix brand has become Marix Ecology, now the leading brand in Europe, with a million tyres per year sold to date. Today Marix Ecology has a 20% share of the European market in retreads for cars, commercial vehicles and 4x4s/SUVs."
