Bridgestone to consolidate retail structure in Japan

Tokyo -- Bridgestone is to rationalise its retail structure in Japan. Currently the company has 18 wholly-owned retail subsidiaries in Japan. These will be consolidated down to two.
The rationalisartion will be carried out in two steps. Initially the 18 companies will be reduced to five in July 2009, and then these will be reduced to two in May 2012.
The two remaining companies will be one for wholesale business and one for retail business.
