Akron, Ohio -- The ACS Rubber Division and the Tire Society have signed a pact that might result in the division administering the society, with possible other collaboration.
The agreement calls for the division's administrative staff to work with the Tire Society's office manager and other representatives this year, to consult and gain knowledge of the organization, both groups said. The division staff will help with the Tire Society's Sept. 15-16 annual conference in Akron, and after that the groups will assess the possibility of a long-term partnership.
The potential collaboration involves administration and joint technical programs, the groups said, but both organizations will remain separate in operation, financial and legal responsibilities.
The Rubber Division and Tire Society said the action recognizes the need to share resources and expertise, particularly in view of the current economic climate.
Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, the Rubber Division is one of 34 divisions of the American Chemical Society, and is the rubber industry's pre-eminent technical organization. The Tire Society was founded in 1979 to increase and disseminate knowledge as it pertains to the science and technology of tyres. Both groups are based in Akron.
