Kalamassery plant opens after Apollo, Unions reach agreement
ERJ staff report (DS)
Gurgaon, Haryana, India -- The PTL tyre plant in Kalamassery, India has re-opened after employers and unions agreed to end their dispute late on Wednesday evening.
The two sides have not resolved all the issues under discussion, but negotiations wil continue after the plant has re-opened.
The Kalamassery unit produces cross ply commercial tyres, primarily for Apollo Tyres' export market out of India. The lockout was imposed on December 6, 2008, when violence broke out across the plant due to resistance from workers and the Unions on the key issue of increasing efficiency and capacity.
