Trelleborg Wheel Systems to close Hartville plant

Trelleborg, Sweden - Trelleborg Wheel Systems in Hartville is closing sometime around May 10, putting its 90 employees out of work.
The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice with the state of Ohio on 12 March, in which Trelleborg states that it will permanently cease operations at its plant at 61 State Route 43 North. Workers will be let go either on or within 14 days of May 10, the company reported.
Trelleborg did not state why it is closing the plant in its filing and officials at company could not be reached, but many manufacturers have been severely impacted by the recession. The company makes industrial tires and rubber products, according to the 2009 Harris Ohio Industrial Directory. Across the nation, the economic downturn has put the brakes on both the production of some heavy equipment and capital spending generally.
As recently as last year, Trelleborg employed 163 people at its 600 000-square-foot plant in Hartville, and had sales of between $25 million (Euro 19 million) and $50 million, according to Harris.
