UK replacement car tyre market estimated at 30 million
ERJ staff report (RD)
London - New figures estimate the UK's replacement car tyre market (including 4x4 and light van tyres) consumes in excess of 30 million units annually, the Tyre Industry Federation said.
The figures, contributed by the tyre manufacturer associations and Tyre Wholesalers Group of the National Tyre Distributors Association indicate combined sales into the UK market of 29.7 million units in 2007, to which must be added imports from other sources as well as retreads and part-worn tyres, the statement said.
In 2007 the total number of cars and light vans on Britain's roads was 34.752 million (SMMT figures), which indicates an annual tyre replacement factor of almost exactly one tyre per vehicle per annum, the Federation said.
