Bandvulc cuts jobs as tyre market goes flat
By Andrew Smith, Plastics & Rubber Weekly
UK retread tyre company Bandvulc is to cut just under 10 percent of its workforce after being hit by the economic downturn.
A total of 20 jobs out of a full time staff of 275 will go at company HQ at Lee Mill, Plymouth.
The company is one of the largest suppliers in the UK of retread tyres for company truck fleets.
Managing director Patrick O'Connell said: “Normally recessions are usually good for us as fleets try to save money. But the present situation is quite different, as the use of transport has been drastically reduced, so the [same] number of tyres are not required.â€
Founded in 1971, the company along with its subsidiaries, now has a combined turnover of £22m (Euro 23.3 million).
