Sumitomo Rubber receives green certification

Kobe, Japan - Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. has received “Eco-First Company†certification form the Ministry of the Environment in recognition of it efforts on environmental conservation, the company said recently.
Sumitomo's “Eco-First Commitment†will include reducing CO2 emissions to less than 58 percent in 2010 compared to 1990 by shifting its fuel from heavy oil to natural gas, introducing co-generation system, and promoting energy saving activities by all employees. The company will also attempt to achieve 0 percent waste for all its factories in 2010.
Finally the company said it will undertake active development of eco-friendly tyres with pioneer technologies. “Utilizing our unique computer simulation, we will develop ultimate eco-tire of 100 percent-free of fossil resources and fuel-efficient tyre whose rolling resistance is reduced by 50 percent for launch in 2013 and in 2015, respectively,†Sumitomo added.
