Pirelli launch incentive for changing tyres
ERJ staff report (RD)
Rome - Pirelli has announced a self-financed initiative for changing tyres. As part of the new programme, under the umbrella of the company's 2009-2011 industrial plan, the company will pay a fuel contribution of up to Euro 60 for those who substitute old tyres with “green†Pirelli products, namely the Cinturato family of tyres, the company said 26 March.
This measure, the company said, aims to sustain demand at a difficult time for the economy and “stimulate the use of low environmental impact products for each segment of the automobile market," the company said.
At the presentation of the initiative in Rome, the company also presented the Cinturato P7, its high performance ecological tyre for the high end of the market.
The Cinturato P7, which will be available starting in May, and has already been adopted by the major automobile manufacturers, is the latest product, in chronological terms, developed by Pirelli's R&D department in line with new European norms that will come into force in 2012, the company said.
The company claims the P7 brings lower CO2 emissions up to 4 grams per kilometre driven, consequent lower fuel consumption and 30 percent reduced sound emissions. To limit the use of synthetic materials and lower pollution, this year the company will be using rice husk among it components for tyre production, Pirelli said.
The company also mentioned its, currently under development, Cyber Tyre, the "intelligent" tyre, which "reads" the pavement conditions thanks to an integrated chip, transmitting to the vehicle information in real time that can be used to find the best driving set up, and to signal situations that are critical for safety, the company added.
